Bad breath clinically known as Halitosis is one of the most embarrassing health condition in the world.



People with halitosis often feel ashamed to speak at a close range with people. They usually have low self-esteem.



Most people have different views on what actually causes bad breath (halitosis). 


Some believe that consistent consumption of certain foods causes halitosis while some believe improper dental hygiene causes halitosis, some even believe that halitosis is hereditary.






All these are people's own view on the cause halitosis. But are they are actually right? Let's see to that in this post.



But first we need to know what actually is halitosis.




What is Halitosis?



Halitosis (Bad Breath) is a dental condition characterized with the presence of a persistent noticeably unpleasant odour on the exhaled breath.





Most time, we do have oral odour or bad breath which disappears when we brush. But if your oral odour can't be combat with regular brushing then you probably have halitosis.







What Causes Halitosis?


There are a number of things that can cause halitosis.


Commonly, halitosis is caused by poor oral hygiene.


How?


Because, if you don't brush and floss teeth properly and daily, food particles can remain in between your teeth.


This promotes bacterial growth between teeth, around the gums, and on the tongue. Bacteria break down pieces of food in between the teeth, and may release an unpleasant-smelling gas.





Certain foods can also cause bad breath. Eating  foods with strong flavour such as onions and garlic, can also cause your breath to smell, as can smoking and drinking alcohol.




Sometimes, bad breath can occur after an infection or illness, or as a result of taking certain types of medication.



How to Treat Bad Breath


Halitosis (Bad Breath) is treatable.

There are a number of ways to treat halitosis, so when you halitosis or bad breath meet your dentist for proper treatment.



However, the following tips could help reduce your bad breath or even eliminate it:


a)  Brushing your teeth twice a day.


b)  Flossing your teeth daily.


c)  Avoid foods known to cause bad 

breath

d)  Clean your tongue regularly


e)  Always place few drops.

How to Prevent Bad Breath


a)  Prevent bad breath by brushing your teeth twice a day.


b)  Prevent bad breath by flossing your teeth daily.


c)  Prevent bad breath by chewing sugarless gums.


d)  Prevent bad breath by cleaning you tongue regularly.


e)  Prevent bad breath by occasional use of a mixture of 50 % hydrogen peroxide and 50 % as mouth rinse.
