What Is Heart Attack?

A Heart attack occurs when blood can't get to your heart hence your heart muscle doesn't get the oxygen it needs to function proper.

Without oxygen, heart cells dies-off.

What are The Causes of Heart Attack?

Heart attack is most often caused by a build-up of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart with blood.


This makes it harder for blood to flow freely.

Most heart attacks happen when a piece of this plaque breaks off, this causes  blood clots to form around the broken-off plaque which blocks the artery.

What are The Symptoms of Heart Attack?

Pains, pressure, or discomfort in your 

Chest 

Shortening of breath

Sweating

Stomach pain

Fatigue


Pains in your neck, jaw, or shoulders

Diagnosis of Heart Attack

Heart attack can be diagnosed in many ways.

EKG (electrocardiogram) which can check your heart's electrical activity, can help doctors see if you're having a heart attack.

It can also show which artery is clogged or blocked.

Heart attack can also be diagnosed with blood tests that look for enzymes (proteins) that heart cells release when they are damaged or die.

Treatment of Heart Attack

The primary aim in treatment of heart of heart attacks to get blood flowing to your heart again.

Most of the drugs used in treatment dissolve blood clots.

A procedure known as coronary angiogram can also be used.

In this procedure a thin tube with a tiny balloon on the end goes through your artery. 

It opens up the blockage by flattening the plaque against the walls.

What are The Risk Factors for Heart Attack?

The risk factors for heart attack include:

* Age: Your odds of having a heart attack increases with age.

* Gender: Men are more likely to have one than women.

* Hereditary:  A family history of heart disease also increases your risk.

* Lifestyle: Smoking raises your chances of a heart attack, also a lack of exercise, excessive consumption of processed foods and foods high in saturated fat can in your risk  for heart attack.

* Other Diseases: High blood pressure, diabetes are all risk for heart heart.

How to Prevent Heart Attack

Cut down your alcohol intake

If you smoke, stop! 

Exercise regularly and eat right.

Eat plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains to keep your arte ries healthy.

Find positive ways to manage your stress.
